The hard-shelled gourd has played a profound role in cultures all around the world for thousands of years. It has very little nutritional value, but its’ hard shell has allowed it to be used as containers (both food and drink), cooking and eating utensils, sounding chamber for musical instruments, and flotation for rafts.
Most anything you can do with wood can be done with the gourd. I enjoy exploring many techniques including pyrography, carving and cutouts, painting, staining and weaving.
